Watertown Youth Baseball Little League Program Descriptions

Watertown Youth Baseball Little League offers Spring, Summer, and Fall seasons for players of all abilities and experience levels.

All of our baseball levels, from Tee Ball to 50/70, operate under our Little League International Charter.

  • This charter covers players who live in or attend school (Public or Private) in Watertown, MA or Belmont, MA.

Seasons Overview

  • Spring Season:

    • Minors and 50/70 levels: Begin with tryouts/evaluations, usually around the 3rd Sunday of March, followed by indoor practices immediately after teams are drafted.

    • Farm and Rookies levels: Starts the Monday after the public school vacation in April.

    • Tee Ball: Begins with our Opening Day Celebration, which typically takes place the Saturday after the public school vacation in April.

  • Summer Season:

    • Runs from late June through Mid August.

    • Includes the usual in-town Little League baseball levels for all players.

    • In-town Minors and 50/70 games are competitive but developmental, with no playoffs.

    • In addition, we offer a select Little League tournament team(s) for players league ages 8–13 who want a higher level of competition and the opportunity to participate in a tournament.

  • Fall Season:

    • A developmental season that usually runs from early September through October.

    • In-town Minors and 50/70 games are competitive but developmental, with no playoffs.

    • Please note: the Fall season uses the following Spring’s Little League age chart for player eligibility.

We welcome both boys and girls on our baseball teams. However, we also offer a girls softball league starting after the Tee Ball level, and we encourage all girls to consider joining the girls softball league for a fun, skill-focused experience.

TEE BALL

Ages: League age 4–5 (Grades Preschool/Pre-K)

Tee Ball is for boys and girls who are new to baseball. Players will follow a fun, structured program that builds a foundation of basic skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and a love for the game through engaging drills, games, and activities.

Note: League age 5-year-olds who have already played one season of Tee Ball may choose to move up to the Farm Level.

FARM

Ages: League age 5–6 (Grades Pre-K/K) – Coach Pitch

The Farm Level is for boys and girls who are ready for the next step after Tee Ball. This program focuses on the fundamentals of baseball, including hitting, throwing, catching, and running the bases. Players begin hitting from coach pitch to further develop their confidence and skills in a supportive, fun environment.

Farm level players will begin their season after the public school vacation in April.
League age 5-year-olds who have not played Tee Ball before should complete one season at the Tee Ball level before moving up to Farm.

ROOKIES

Ages: League age 7–8 (Grades 1–2) – Coach/Modified Kid Pitch

The Rookie Level continues to build on core fundamentals while introducing more advanced baseball concepts. Players will begin transitioning from coach pitch to a modified kid pitch format. The focus remains on skill development, confidence, and understanding the game, while maintaining a fun, encouraging atmosphere.

Rookies level players will begin their season after the public school vacation in April.

MINORS

Ages: League age 8–10 – All Kid Pitch

The Minors Level introduces players to fully competitive baseball with umpires, scores, and playoffs in the Spring season. The focus remains on developing baseball skills—pitching, fielding, base running, and game strategy—while adding a higher level of competition. Practices are scheduled by the team manager based on field availability.

  • League age 8 players must attend a tryout/evaluation to determine readiness for this level. Placement will depend on skill level and roster availability. Players not yet ready will play in the Rookie Level.

  • League age 9–10 players are required to attend an evaluation, after which they will be drafted by team managers.

Summer and Fall in-town Minors games are competitive but developmental only; there are no playoffs.

INTERMEDIATE (50/70)

Ages: League age 11–13

This level features 50-foot pitching distance and 70-foot base paths, preparing players for regulation baseball. The Intermediate 50/70 division is a competitive level with scheduled games, playoffs, and team practices in the Spring season.

  • Returning 50/70 players from last spring will be drafted back onto a 50/70 team.

  • League age 11 players must attend a tryout/evaluation to determine if they are ready for this level. Those not yet ready will be placed in the Minors draft.

  • All players registering for 50/70 must participate in the tryout/evaluation process.

Summer and Fall in-town 50/70 games are competitive but developmental only; there are no playoffs.
