Shorthanded RED Raiders WIN! Please RSVP for 10/9 game...
by posted 10/02/2022

Hey Baseball Fans!

BRRR!!!  We finally had our first "legit" Fall baseball game with temps in the 50s with a breeze.  We also found ourselves a bit short-handed today and could only field a team of 8 (thank you Jake Mosca and Michael Caterino for filling in!).

All that meant though...was a shorter lineup for RED to work the bats and put runs on the board!  Despite the cold...the RED bats were HOT today with a total of 15 hits on their way to a 10-8 victory!

Nate Hardy (3-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs)and Leo Orifice (3-4, 3 RBI) had 3 hits each and multiple RBIs, while Will Flatley (2-4, RBI, 2 runs), Ryland Schrader (2-4), Jake Mosca (2-3, run, RBI) and Mike Caterino (2-4, run) all had multi hit games.  Charles Curtiss also contributed a hit with 2 runs and an RBI and Jack Airasian reached base 3 times and scored twice.

Will, Charles and Leo kept their composure on the mound striking out a combined 9 batters and battling through adversity to get out of innings.  We also saw great glove work, especially in the outfield, from Nate and Jack - who both made huge catches off some of Watertown Black's big bats.

All in all - it ended up being one of our more fun games of the Fall.  Great job, boys!!!

FYI - WE DO HAVE A GAME SCHEDULED FOR THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND (Sunday, 10/9 @ 3pm).  Please let us know ASAP if your player WILL NOT be in Town.

I'll be away from the team next weekend.  Thanks in advance to Zach Hardy for taking charge next week and to Mike Schrader for volunteering.  No practice this week - so get out and throw the ball around if you can this week!

Four more games remain....let's keep having fun!

See you all soon!

Great Effort Sunday! Practice Tuesday @5pm
by posted 09/26/2022

Hey Baseball Fans,

Thanks for coming out and supporting your players on Sunday.  We had a very exciting finish that didn't quite go Watertown RED's way on Sunday.  There were many lessons learned and a lot to be proud of in the 12-11 squeaker.

Fall baseball is once again is all about development.  We asked seasoned 12 year olds to be vocal leaders.  We asked kids new to Majors to be brave and stand in aganst hard throwing pitchers on the other team.  We asked our pitchers to perform, be consistent with form and battle in pressure situations.  We asked fielders to be nimble, high energy and to have their pitcher's back.  We asked kids to hold their heads high and to give themselves some credit after a walk-off loss.

...and all late on a Sunday afternoon in the rain.

This team has a great attitude and the boys are playing improved baseball in these three short weeks.  We were really thrilled with what we saw from our guys on the field.  Any time our players can display 100% EFFORT and managing of EMOTIONS (the good old 2 E's) it will lead to more success on the field.

We are going to squeeze in one more evening practice this coming Tuesday @ 5pm and will wrap no later than 6:30pm due to the short day.  Any further practices will be on an occasional Saturday AM...stay tuned.

Thanks again for the support from our parents and kudos to all levels of baseball here in Watertown that have opted to play into the chilly Fall.  It will pay dividends!

Have a great week,

~Coach Doug
